Civic Candidates Forum at the U of L

Shelia wrote this and posted it to the U of L Notice Board. I'll be writing a full article on the Lethbridge municipal election and Take Back Your City campaign this weekend, but don't let that stop you from researching stuff on your own. -Cody

The University of Lethbridge Students’ Union and the Lethbridge Public Interest Research Group will host a civic candidates forum in the Atrium at Noon on Wednesday, October 10. This is a great opportunity for students to take action on issues that matter to them and put pressure on candidates to address these issues.

This forum is organized as part of the Take Back Your City campaign aimed at encouraging young people to take part in the democratic process and become more aware of how all levels of government impact their lives. Take Back Your City is a non-partisan campaign coordinated by Public Interest Alberta in connection with student unions and associations throughout the province, with the assistance of several provincial organizations, unions and advocacy groups.

"The young citizens of Alberta need to become active in the affairs that affect them,” says Kelly Kennedy, University of Lethbridge Students’ Union president. “This campaign will engage students and Alberta’s youth to become more involved in the democratic process."

To begin the forum, candidates will each introduce themselves and then the floor will be opened up for questions. Everyone is welcome to attend and ask questions.
