LPIRG Events! March 17th - 24th

Hello again everyone! My apologies for missing last Sunday's update, I simply forgot to note down that it needed updating in my daytimer. If you ever come by this site looking for the update, and I've forgotten to post it, please send me a reminder at cody.sharpe(at)gmail.com. You can also contact me there with event info, comments, questions, or anything else you think I should know. Now, on to this week's events!

----------------------------TUESDAY, March 18th----------------------------

Free Student Lunch
11AM-2PM, Atrium

LPIRG isn't affiliated with the Health Center here on campus, but this event is a great idea and I want to help promote it. Be sure to stop by the Atrium around this time to enjoy a nutritious free lunch and to receive information on how to stretch your limited food budget. For more information, contact Dianne Carter at the Health Center at dianne.carter(at)uleth.ca.

Foreplay/The Vagina Monologues
5:30PM, Atrium/8PM, University Theatre, $20 Students, $30 General Admission

These two fundraisers have been organized by the University of Lethbridge Women's Centre and are sponsored by LPIRG. Forplay is a fun and interactive event - taking place in the Atrium - featuring a talent show, activities, and various local business. Following this free event in the University Theatre is the Women's Centre's production of Eve Ensler’s Vagina Monologues, which features U of L staff, faculity and students and is intended to raise money for the Lethbridge YWCA Harbour House & Kainai Women’s Shelter. Tickets can be purchased at the U of L Box Office, located on level 5 of the University Centre for the Arts. You can call the box office directly at 403-329-2616 for more information.

----------------------------WEDNESDAY, March 19th----------------------------

Film Screening: Heavy Metal in Baghdad
6PM, Galileo's Gallery

Like the free student lunch provided by the Health Centre, LPIRG has nothing to do with putting together this event. I'm really excited about it, however, so I want to help get the word out. I had a long description of the film written out, but the trailer says it all.

Here's Acrassicauda's MySpace, the Facebook event page for the screening and the movie's homepage. I strongly encourage you to attend, especially if you're not a metalhead. I think this movie will explain the attraction to everyone, even those who aren't fans. By the way, the movie's title is written in the Iron Maiden font. \M/!

----------------------------THURSDAY, March 20th----------------------------

Events and Community Outreach Committee Meeting
Noon, LPIRG Office

Want to get involved with LPIRG? Here's your opportunity. This week's meeting of the Events and Community Outreach Committee is open to all students and will provide you with a chance to tell us what sort of activities you'd like to see LPIRG, as well as volunteer to help out with events already under construction. If you'd like to attend or want more information, please contact me at cody.sharpe(at)gmail.com

Project Porchlight Lethbridge Orientation Meeting
6PM, Galileo's Gallery

Over the next several weeks, Project Porchlight will be giving away over 20,000 free compact fluorescent lightbulbs to residents of Lethbridge. There are three different orientation session happening this week, but this is the only one taking place on campus. If you'd like to volunteer to drop off bulbs, please attend one of these sessions or sign-up online at Project Porchlight's homepage.
